Shaving
Double-Coated
Dogs

All the other price quotes on this page are generally for breeds of dogs who traditionally require full-body haircuts. However we do also frequently get calls from pet owners wishing to shave down their double-coated dogs - which are dogs from breeds which traditionally do not have full-body haircuts.

Generally, we do not recommend shaving these breeds. These dogs have a natural coat which builds up undercoat for seasonal warmth, and then sheds it out in the spring. These breeds definitely benefit from professional grooming, but we recommend they instead have our Brush, Bath, & Trim Package - and possibly our de-shedding add-on as this is ideally suited to their needs and coat-type.

If you are not  sure what is best for your pet and/or your individual needs, we suggest viewing our our page "Should I have my double-coated dog shaved down?" which helps you explore the options for your individual situation.

If you decide you still want to have your double coated dog shaved down, we can perform this procedure for you, though clients should be aware that:

  1. Their dog will look very different (and probably not as attractive),

  2. Their dog may require special protection from the sun and from insect bites for a while after shaving.

  3. If it is winter, the dog must be kept indoors after shaving.

  4. It is possible that the dog may suffer some skin irritations.

  5. The dog's coat may never grow back quite the same.

Please note: The following prices assume that the dog is well-behaved for grooming and does not have mats. Matting and/or behavior issues which require extra grooming time (or a second groomer's assistance) to deal with, may increase the price significantly.

(Note: if your dog is only groomed once or twice per year, it is likely that issues of matting and and  being unaccustomed to grooming may result in a price increase.)
